- [David] When working with mesh and point cloud data, SOLIDWORKS 2019 now offers more features than ever that can help us take this data and convert it into something usable in SOLIDWORKS, such as surface bodies and solid bodies. In this course, we're going to walk through some of the classic options that we had in opening and importing the mesh files. We're then going to look at what surface tools we can use to edit our mesh, repair our mesh or replace some of the faces. We're going to take a look at Boolean geometry and how you can combine and delete bodies. We're also going to step through a few of the scan to 3D features that help us manipulate our mesh when we first bring it in. Then we're going to focus on the new mesh BREP body capabilities in SOLIDWORKS that are new to 2019. And in the end, we're going to try and export this mesh and send it out to a vendor for 3D printing. Thank you so much for joining us for SOLIDWORKS Mesh Tools and let's jump into it.
Much of CAD design uses 3D elements for finite element analysis (FEA) simulation. However, sometimes thin-walled or frame-like structures dominate. In these cases, shell (2D) and beam (1D) elements can represent designs more effectively. Across all industries, as much as 50% of the design of major engineering projects fall into these categories. In this course, instructor Tony Abbey explains how to work with shell and beam models in SOLIDWORKS. Learn when to use shell, beam, and specialized truss elements; understand the fundamentals of modeling with them; and find out how to mesh, postprocess, and model components with these tools. Tony shows how to set up and run these FEA simulations to test the integrity of your designs and view results such as stress, force, and displacement.
Polygon modeling is more common with game design than any other modeling technique as the very specific control over individual polygons allows for extreme optimization. Usually, the modeler begins with one of the 3ds max primitives, and using such tools as bevel and extrude, adds detail to and refines the model. Versions 4 and up feature the Editable Polygon object, which simplifies most mesh editing operations, and provides subdivision smoothing at customizable levels.
Character Studio was a plugin which since version 4 of Max is now integrated in 3D Studio Max; it helps users to animate virtual characters. The system works using a character rig or \"Biped\" skeleton which has stock settings that can be modified and customized to fit the character meshes and animation needs. This tool also includes robust editing tools for IK/FK switching, Pose manipulation, Layers and Keyframing workflows, and sharing of animation data across different Biped skeletons. These \"Biped\" objects have other useful features that help accelerate the production of walk cycles and movement paths, as well as secondary motion. 153554b96e
